I like Pidgin a lot (it’s an IM manager for Linux and Windows) , but having Ubuntu pop up a message every time someone logs in or out makes me crazy. It’s a pretty easy fix, though it’s hard to find because you might expect it to be listed in preferences. Instead, right click on the icon in the status bar and choose “Plugins”. Then scroll down to “LibNotify Popups” and uncheck the box. You’re done!
